Hebrews 10:19-39 ; Hebrews 11

Scripture -  Let's see how inventive we can be in encouraging love and helping out, not avoiding worshiping together as some do but spurring each other on, especially as we see the big Day approaching.  Hebrews 10:23-25

Observation - Here is a brief encouragement for making worship a part of one's life of faith.  A call, perhaps, to resist the temptation that we don't really need the church - "God and I do our own thing."  If church - especially corporate worship - is "not doing it" for us, the author seems to be saying, "don't bolt," do something about it.  Be creative, be inventiive, but do so to encourage love and to help out.  The focus here is on others, "spurring each other on."

Application - Worship is not simply about what I get out of it.  It's more about what I bring to it,  and the One that brings me there - God.  After that the person sitting next to me is as important as I am - what am I doing to encourage them.  When my focus is there, the other stuff happening too.

Prayer - Dear God,  help us to maintain an other-centerd focus for worship, knowing that it is the way that you encourage and desire for us.  In Jesus' name, Amen.
